Producer/Director
Joan Keenan first came to St. Croix as part of her Peace Corps training in 1966. After teaching for two years in Liberia, West Africa, she relocated to St. Croix and taught at Charles H. Emanuel School for 36 years. There she became interested in preserving the stories of Virgin Islands elders. The student video team she organized produced two documentaries: Virgin Islands Women Making History and We Are Culture Bearers Too: Youth Preserving Traditional Games.
After retirement she decided to record the stories of Virgin Islands World War II veterans. This evolved into the documentary: Proudly We Served: Virgin Islands Veterans of World War II. She is currently working with a team of community volunteers to produce: Proudly We Served: Virgin Islands Veterans of the Vietnam War
